Post-Surgery Update

Posted by Andrew & Jessica on Thursday Mar 13, 2008 Under Mary Elizabeth

Mary Elizabeth’s surgery went well. She was in amazingly good spirits afterwards, so thanks for the prayers. She was sleeping on and off and in between she’d sit up and color, watch one of her favorite movies (The Sound of Music) and whatnot. It is also pretty great that she tollerated and listened to us about keeping the wires on her and all that. She was very good about everything.

Before surgery started, she did have a rough time in the OR, she seemed a bit scared and felt threatened, even though I brought her in she sorta fought off the nurses and didn’t want to be there- do you blame her? I bet it is overwhleming at her age- not really knowing what’s going on and feeling a bit nervous about her surroundings. But she did ok and I am thankful I can be there with her until she is asleep from the medication.

As far as how she is doing now- she’s still being a trooper and remaining happy through it all. She is a bit uncomfortable as you can imagine- so tylenol/motrin really helps. Her face is quite swollen as we knew it would be, but we are still praying the swelling resolves quicker than last time because it’s really hard. Her whole face and her mouth/tongue etc ballooned up- so things like talking and eating are hard to do right now and that’s a challenge as she wants to eat and talk- it’s frustrating for her.

We will go for a follow up visit with the Dr in 2 months. Last time it took about 4-5 weeks for the swelling to come down and we didn’t see any results for about 8 weeks, and some results even came after that. So we have to be a patient, and like many people- being patient is a hard thing to be.

After the follow up appt we’ll schedule an MRI to get a better look at what cysts remain.

As always, continue to keep her in your prayers and thoughts- and thank you!
